David Bastedo has been an Experience Designer for over ten years, bridging the gap between technology and creativity for numerous clients in the worlds of advertising, e-learning, music and childrens’ entertainment. As an associate and artist in residence with institutes such as the Banff Centre, the Canadian Centre for Arts and Technology at the University of Waterloo and the Canadian Film Centre, David has actively explored interactive experience formats such as multi-user game environments, data visualization and the managing of user driven communities. In March of 2009, David was a guest of the Institute for Creative Industries and Innovation at Queensland University of Technology, and its Director, Professor Phil Graham.
David has been a long-time designer and developer of interactive games, experiences, online applications, web sites, polls and e-learning modules and now considers himself a content designer, integrator and manipulator.
David has spent more than five years building and managing the online activities for the Canadian band The Tragically Hip. This has enabled him to bring some of his passions together and mash programming, multimedia content, marketing, customer service and community building into a narrative driven, contextualized framework that enriches the user experience and enables Hip fans to interact personally with the music, the band and their own personal experiences and interactions – all based around social media.
David is interested in the contextualizing of content in the social media environment, its applications and use as a communications metaphor.
David is currently working with Team Detroit helping the Ford Motor Company and its enthusiasts share their Ford stories at www.theFordStory.com .
